This year’s Black History Month theme is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’. Shining a light on stories and histories of black heritage.
This theme was chosen to challenge the narratives that have often overlooked the contributions and achievements of Black individuals both in the UK and globally. By honouring these heroes, we shine a light on the diverse and profound impact of Black individuals across various fields. During Black History Month we aim to embrace, educate, and empower one another through the stories that shape our collective identity.
Black History month is a great opportunity to recognise and honour the significant contributions and achievements of Black people throughout history and to acknowledge their impact on British society and culture today.
Individuals such as Afua Hirsch, esteemed journalist, author, and broadcaster who effortlessly blends intellectual pursuits with cultural insights. She has inspired a new generation of journalists, paving the way for a more inclusive future.
Beverley Knight, the British Soul sensation, is known for her breath-taking musical performances, but she also tirelessly advocates against homelessness and for equality. She has inspired many far beyond the limelight of her music.
Sir Lewis Hamilton MBE Racing driver, activist and entrepreneur, became the first Black Formula 1 world champion won a further seven world titles. A prolific supporter of Black Lives Matter he funded many projects encouraging young Black people with a particular focus on increasing diversity in motorsport.
By spotlighting the impact these individuals have had across various fields we not only celebrate their legacy but also inspire future generations to make their own mark.
During the month of October, we asked our Knauf employees to share a video of their personal stories about growing up within the community, their culture and how empowering situations have shaped who they’ve become. We have collectively enjoyed hearing more about our colleagues and learning about what Black culture means to them.
